Okay, so we all know Rihanna did the Superbowl right. As expected, it has caused controversy yall, with some of you saying that you found the performance underwhelming and others saying that she ate the stage up. But for me, Rihanna’s performance was nothing short of a branding masterclass. Hear me out!
When we consider that to grow a brand or business, the key is to constantly reinforce three things in the mind of your potential customers, clients and followers: 1. exactly what you do, 2. what makes you unique and 3. how you can help them. Learn more here
Then Rihanna did the dam thing!
1) she reintroduced us to her music: just in case you and I had forgotten, she reminded us that she is a musician first.
It was rumoured that Rihanna changed the set list 39 times before settling on 14 song set list, which included songs like – diamonds, rude boi and work.
2) Plugged Fenty beauty: did you notice the overt plug she did for Fenti when she just randomly started powdering her face for no apparent reason.
3) Made her brand relevant with the announcement of her baby: relevancy is key; when it comes to these big brands, they work hard to show us that they are just like us, as this makes their brand more relatable, resulting in more sales.
4) She kept it her moment: one of the things that I have been hearing is that some of you were disappointed that she did not bring out any guest performers. But being on one of the world’s biggest stages, why would she bring others on stage and dilute her moment? She has an entire catalogue of relevant music to keep us entertained for hours, much less 13 minutes. Plus, she wanted to be the only name on everyone’s lips.
From a branding perspective, Rihanna knocked it out of the park, using this moment to show that she is a woman in control and to cement all the facets of her brand that have landed her a place in the billionaires club.
